Generator Installers in Lafayette, LA

Most homeowners in the Lafayette Parish area should budget roughly $7,000–$18,000 installed for a whole-home standby unit. Smaller partial-home units can come in lower. The final price depends on generator size (kW), how far the gas line has to run, whether your electrical panel needs an upgrade, the concrete pad, and permit fees. Get at least two or three written quotes.

If your home already has a natural gas line, that's usually the simplest choice — no tank to refill and it can run for days through an outage. Homes without gas service typically use a buried or above-ground propane tank, which adds cost and needs to be sized for how long you want to run. Many standby units can run on either fuel.

In most of Louisiana, a permanently installed standby generator needs electrical (and often gas) permits and an inspection from the local parish or city permit office. A reputable installer pulls these for you — ask who handles permits before you sign.

Book in winter or early spring if you can. Once a storm is in the Gulf, demand spikes, equipment can back-order, and install calendars fill up for weeks. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.
